Hi there. I thought I'd tell you about my life right now.
The best part of my life is camp. I love going to camp, which I do Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays. Mom was just letting me go until noon, but I realized that most of the other kids stayed for lunch so I begged her and I now get to stay until 2 (except Mondays because I have speech, so then I'll leave right after lunch). Mommy misses me when I'm gone that long.
My favorite part of camp is the pool. Just a little pool, but I always have fun. I love the big pool but can only go it when Daddy comes with us because of Ryan.
I love Ryan. But he really puts a crimp in our lives. He has to nap, and nurse and all of that generally keeps me from doing what I want. Like being loud. I'm generally really good about that, and usually very nice to my baby brother but every now and then I do something to make him cry. On purpose. Mommy just HATES that. I know. That's why I do it.
Speech is going well, I really like "E". She plays fun games with me and I get candy [note from Mom: candy is a part of the oral manipulation]. My speech is coming along nicely. We have to keep working though. If I remember to slow down and talk from my belly, its much easier to understand me. E says I have apraxia and some oral motor issues, but we're making big strides on both fronts.
Well, that's it for now! Gotta run! As I end all my phone calls, "Love you, bye!"

This too shall pass . . .
Last night wasn't AS bad, but he did want to eat at 12 (but I staved him off until 1) and again at 5. What happened to my 3am boy? Spoiled me, he did.
Hopefully this is just a short phase. I realize that I rocked his world by kicking him out of our room into his own and that great, big, crib. Mean mommy!
Yesterday I walked him for 2 hours (sounds like exercise, but not really, as I was mostly doing slow figure eights in my driveway, due to impending rain) to get him to take a good morning nap. Today he fell asleep in the car when dropping Andrew at camp (as always) but woke up soon after getting home and I actually got him back to sleep in his crib. yeah, we'll see how long this lasts.

Uh Oh
Ryan loves me. I know this because he just loves to see me -- lights up, smiles, kicks. And I love to see him! But not so much at midnight. And less at 12:07. And 12:19, 12:40, 12:43, and so on. By 2:00 I really didn't want to see him for a while.
Yes, last night sucked. A little background -- Ryan has been a great sleeper. Slept a lot. Napped a lot. And anywhere. Slept through the night, only waking once to eat.
Yesterday and last night were not so sunny on the sleep front. He doesn't really nap on the go very well anymore, and yet doesn't nap in his crib great either. He's been breaking free of the miracle blanket so I bought a large "swaddleme" blanket and tried that. He was awake, talking, from 12-2am. Finally broke down and used the miracle blanket again and got him down - not sure if it was the blanket or exhaustion.
As the mother of a lousy sleeper (Andrew) as a baby, I had really loved Ryan's sleeping and know what it may mean if he's losing that skill.
And here's the rubs -- I'd just wean him from the swaddle (which I may do anyway) except for the fact that he goes DOWN to sleep so beautifully, and I don't want to ruin that.
I'd wean him from the binky (which I re-inserted about 1000 times last night, and Steve did a few times as well) except for the fact that they now say that it reduces the risk of SIDS, which scares me much more than lack of sleep. Little sidebar: That recommendation really irks me because 1) Ryan (and most babies) spit out their binkys when they're asleep. What are we supposed to do, tape it in? And 2) this seems to put the blame on Mommies. If GOD FORBID something were to happen the Mommy would think "If I'd only stayed awake all night making sure that binky was in his mouth . . ." They also recommend that the crib should be in the parent's room and again, I think that is the Drs looking to have someone to blame.
AND, here's the real catcher. He's not crying when he's up (usually). But you mom's out there know if he's up -- I'm up. I'd let him cry it out a bit in a few weeks, but I don't want it to wake Andrew. And then there's the fact that he's not crying. And the whole pacifier thing.
So there you go. Yawn.

Ryan's 3 month appointment
Well, he's just fine. 13lbs 2oz (50th percentile, about) and 23" (10th percentile, about. Poor short kid).
I must say, I wasn't thrilled with my pediatrician. The exam felt cursory and when she asked if his poopy issues had resolved, I happily reported Yes, and told her about the lactation consultant's recommendation and how that seemed to be the cure. The doctor told me "I don't need to know why, I just need to know he's ok." How shortsighted. The info I told her could help another Mommy with a kid with green, mucousy, bloody poops.

Ryan is 3 months old!
Shocking. Time SO flies by. He goes into the Dr. tomorrow for a checkup and I'll give the lowdown.
If only my brain interfaced directly with my computer
I'll have you know I write blog entries every day. In my head. Its the typing them in that has me slowed down.
We're getting by here, Steve is sick again, having just kicked the last cold. We got a new patio door, and that provided some excitement.
We've also been hitting the pools, which is very challenging with both kids. We just decided to join the JCC for the summer (Andrew is going to camp there too) becuause they have a nice tot pool that Andrew can be in alone, with me sitting with Ryan in the shade. We figure it was cheaper than paying a babysitter to come with me each time we wanted to go to the pool. Stop rolling your eyes -- our park district kid's pool is just a little too dangerous for Andrew alone (its deeper, and with lots of kids, including some that are way too rough).
Just got back from the Burke's for a father's day/birthday dinner last night. Judy is in a juried art show this weekend so Steve went up and cooked dinner. Papa went into the pool with Andrew at the club -- they had a blast. Good pictures coming.
Hopefully I'll start getting the blog posts out of my head.
